The Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar is expected to replace multiple systems currently used by the Marine Corps in the field. 1. The first round of software development activity focused on air defense, where aircraft would be tracked by the radar and identified. 2. The next round will focus on ground defense, or "counter-battery and incoming rounds." 3. Program officials envision it being used for ballistic-missile defense at some point.
