Advanced Gun System Soon To Sail on Zumwalt Destroyer

The Advanced Gun System (AGS) is a transformational naval weapon system designed for naval surface fire support aboard the U.S. Navy's Zumwalt- (DDX, later DDG 1000) class destroyer. The Zumwalt-class destroyer is armed with two AGSs, both mounted in front of the deckhouse. The Zumwalt class was truncated to three ships from the original plan of seven ships, resulting in a total of six AGSs to be fielded. There currently are no plans to build any AGSs beyond the six for the Zumwalt class. The AGS is not approved for sale to foreign nations. The first of class Zumwalt has been launched and is in final fitting prior to builders' trials.
