I receive more inquiries about the ins and outs of newsletters than any other subject. There are a number of good reasons for this, principal among which is the widespread notion that newsletters can be very good for business. This suspicion is founded in truth ― there is an abundance of evidence to suggest that advertising dollars can't be better spent than on a well-composed newsletter. Perhaps the No. 1 query I receive is about the type of newsletter to use. The inquiry typically is framed something like this: "We think a newsletter program might help us. How about syndicated (or 'canned') newsletters?" The answer to this question might not be what the questioner wants to hear.
