Lay of the Land

In recent years archaeologists have discovered several major structures in the vicinity of Stonehenge that have spawned new ideas about how Neolithic people used the landscape. A leading theory holds that the builders of the famous stone circle lived in a settlement at Durrington Walls while they erected the monument and then returned there for seasonal celebrations at a timber counterpart of Stonehenge called the Southern Circle.
