The European Union this week adopted new rules for airport security scanners, including a ban on the x-ray body scanners deployed in major U.S. airports. "Only security scanners which do not use X-ray technology are added to the list of authorised methods for passenger screening at EU airports," reads the statement, released 14 November. The U.S. Transportation Security Agency (TSA) began rolling out its scanners in 2007. TSA says on its Web site that the technology is "safe and meets national health and safety standards."
