'Millennium Project' Outline

摘要

With the beginning of the new millennium at hand, new, audacious technological innovations are called for to address various issues surrounding us and to give birth to new industries. In fiscal 2000, the Japanese government has made a special allocation of ¥250 billion to promote economic re-vitalization. ¥120.6 billion of this is set aside for measures to be taken in the three areas of computerization, aging society, and environmental issues, which are of vast socioeconomic importance to the country, and technological innovation will be addressed in the form of the Millennium Project, a national project to be carried out by the industry, academic society, and government.
