RIKEN (the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research), Japan (President: Ryoji Noyori) is headquartered in Wako-shi, Saitama Prefecture with institutes in Tsukuba, Yokohama, and Harima, as well. As Japan's leading research institute for natural science, RIKEN conducts research across a broad spectrum of fields including physics, engineering, chemistry, biology and medicine. The RIKEN Kobe Institute is one of these centers. The Kobe Institute was established in April 2002 and is home to the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology (CDB). The RIKEN Kobe Institute is located in Kobe-shi, Hyogo Prefecture in the Port Island Phase 2 development and neighbors the Institute of Biomedical Research and Innovation (IBRI) run by the Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation. The Kobe Institute is built on an approximately 18,600 square meter site.
