The discoveries and applications of X-rays, synchrotron radiation and lasers have opened exciting new possibilities in science and technology. Each of these types of radiation has made significant contributions in the development of many important industries. A couple of examples of applications of these technologies are the use of medical X-rays for diagnostic purposes and lasers in high-speed optical communications of the Internet.
