Preventing of Soil Contamination

Contaminants in the soil do not move as easily as those in the water or in the atmosphere. Therefore, a range of advanced chemical technologies for containing an oil spill and decomposing the oil on site have been developed.rnIn Japan, the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Law came into effect in 2003, and soil contamination research was made mandatory when a facility such as a plant that uses specific harmful substances is decommissioned. Land that has been found to be contaminated is designated contaminated land by the governor of the prefecture, and the land owner is obliged to take countermeasures, such as the elimination of contaminants.
