Einstein: a miraculous year one century later

The year 2005 was declared International Year of Physics by the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization to celebrate the first centenary of Einstein's miraculous year. In the year 1905, Einstein contributed three of the most important discoveries in science: the nature of Brownian motion, which provided a basis for proving the molecular nature of matter; the theory of the photoelectric effect, which explained the quantum aspects of the interaction between light and matter and showed how universal the quantum could be; and the discovery of special relativity.
