摘要

The heavy metals are water soluble non-biodegradable, toxic pollutants released from various industries. Some metals when discharged into natural waters at increased concentration in sewage, industrial effluent or from mining and refining operations, can have severe toxicological effects on aquatic environment and humans, the concentration of metals in bottom sediments is expected to be higher than in the water above and this sometimes can cause secondary pollution problems, therefore, bottom sediments are repository of heavy metals Essential heavy metals are generally considered to be less toxic than non-essential metals, (Batley, 1993).
