摘要

The concept of wireless LAN was first introduced in 1980 there after many companies tried to implement variety of wireless LAN applications using spread spectrum, infrared and wideband radio technologies. In 1997, IEEE 802.11 standard provided a solid platform for new applications. This concept gained the importance and the needed momentum, thank to the digital technology, new large-scale circuit integration and the advancement of related technologies which made deployment of wireless technology affordable and cheap. IEEE is going to finalize the draft of a new advanced high speed WLAN standard by the end of year, 2008 which will further speed-up and popularize the deployments of WLANs in near future.
