Mhairi Aitken is a PhD candidate at The Robert Gordon University in rnAberdeen. The focus of her PhD is on understanding the experiences of local communities in proposed areas for wind power developments and, in particular, what role laypeople can play within decision-making about such developments. Before commencing her PhD, Mhairi completed a Bachelors (honours) degree in Sociology at the University of York and an MSc in Environment and Development at the University of East Anglia. rnNoel Castree is a Professor in the School of Environment and Development, Manchester University. He teaches geography. His principal research interest is the political economy of environmental change. He is author of Nature (Routledge, 2005) and co-editor of David Harvey: A Critical Reader (Blackwell, 2006) and A Companion to Environmental Geography (Wiley-Blackwell, 2009). He is managing editor of the journal Antipode and co-editor of the journal Progress in Human Geography.
