Studies on Path Analysis in Pole Type Rajmash (Phaseolus Vulgaris L.) under Rainfed at 9000' Altitude

Rajmash (Phaseolus vutgaris L.) is an important leguminous crop of hilly region. It occupies and acclimatized in variable physico-geographical and micro-climatic conditions of hilly region and therefore developed differences in growth habit, morphological behaviour, seed size, shape and colour and also in cooking quality and taste. Exploitation of such a wide array variability has not been channeled properly in rajmash improvement and therefore, by and large farmers are growing their own preferred varieties since long back. Its increasing demand, however, makes it a more remunerative and important crop in present farming systems of highlanders', which necessitated to deal the crop intentionally for improving yield, resistance and adaptability potential. The present piece of work has tried to generate some basic genetical information such as variability, character association and direct and indirect contributions of different component traits toward grain yield among a set of 83 rajmash germplasm evaluated at high altitude (9000' elevation) of central Himalayas. Since Rajmash produced in high altitudes such as Auli, Harsil, Munsiyari, etc. are in great demand because of their cooking quality and taste, and therefore, in this reference, information generated in the present investigation may be more pertinent for rajmash improvement programme for hilly region.
