Biology of predatory pentatmoid bug Cantheconidea furcellata (Wolff) on cotton semilooper Anomis flava Fb

Studies on biology of predatory pentatomid bug Cantheconidea furcellata (Wolff) on larvae of cotton semilooper Anomis flava Fb. under laboratory conditions revealed that the incubation and nymphal period was 6.5 and 15.8 days respectively. The mean longevity of female and male adult was 20.9 and 27.8 days respectively. The life cycle from egg to adult emergence was completed in 22.3 days. The pre oviposition, oviposition and post oviposition period varied from 5-8, 10-16 and 7-13 days respectively. Sex ratio of male : female was 1: 1.15. The predatory bug consumed 21.8 nos. of third instars of A. flava during its nymphal stages. An adult male and female bug consumed 62.1 and 75.9 nos. third instars of A. flava respectively. Cannibalism was also noticed amongst different instars of C. furcellata in scanty / absence of prey species.
