Role of Potentially Important Microbes in Bioremediation

One of the most challenging current problems, arising with rapid industrialization, is the proper disposal of waste products. Bioremediation stands as a simpler, cheaper and eco-friendly "clean up technology". This process utilizes biological organisms, mostly microorganisms/plants or their various catabolic enzymes to degrade chemical pollutants or reduce their concentration levels below the threshold as suggested by the regulatory authorities. The present review focuses on the enormous potential of various groups of microbes in bioremediation of several highly prevalent inorganic and organic contaminants found in nature.
