'Drinkable book'- A Unique Method to Purify Water

One of the biggest problems in the developing world is access to safe, reliable drinking water. Now a new and inexpensive technique of purifying drinking water is available, according to a paper presented at the 250th national meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston, USA in March 2015. Called the "drinkable book", the pages of the book are impregnated with nanoparticles of silver or copper, which kill bacteria in the water. As the water runs through, the bacteria absorb the silver or copper ions, which kill the bacteria.
