Hawk, Spit, Stick the Shovel In

Back along, a certain editor of this parish was building BAe Hawks, in fact the first model he successfully finished on returning to the hobby was Italeri's Hawk in 100 Squadron colours using Xtradecal's set 72031, and on the strength of this success he built another eight by assorted brands, as well as a Matchbox Hawk 200. This was around 1998 and while both Italeri and the then current Airfix boxing had much to offer they were neither perfect. Zip forward seventeen years and here we are again. This time it's a brand new kit, a much more recent Xtradecal sheet, hopefully a little more technique, and what looks to be an almost effortless build from the box... Revell's new kit seems to have crept up under the radar but is none the worse for that. Last month I was pleased to have a look in the box and needless to say the kit is not finished yet but it has progressed to a point at which I can outline the salient points of the build with some authority. It has gone together very well, in fact both of them have, and only the usual dictates of time and revised editorial schedules have prevented a finished result in this issue.
