The Bristol Beaufighter in Israeli Air Force Service

On June 27,1948 Israel's purchasing agent in England, Emanuel Tzor, made arrangements for the purchase of ten overhauled surplus Bristol Beaufighters held at Fairy Aviation of Ringway, at a cost of 98,000 French Francs each. After a preliminary inspection of the 10 Beaufighters held at the facility, only seven were found suitable for overhaul, with the remaining airframes to serve as a source for spare parts. Severe corrosion found during overhaul in one of the airframes, left the airplanes to be restored to flying condition at six. By the third week of July, 1948, the six Beaufighters received British Civil Registration call letters G-AJMA/B/C/D/E/F.
