Regulatory action including at the workhorse FCC and thetimeline for recovery are emerging as key benchmarks ofIoT connectivity as it looks past the pandemic.The FCC will have to referee a dispute intensifyingbetween US-based Ligado Networks and its opponents inthe GPS and military sectors, as the regulator itself is feelingpolitical pressure. On 20 April the agency announced thatit approved with conditions Ligado’s application to deploy alow-power terrestrial nationwide network in L-band, allowing30MHz of spectrum to be available for terrestrial wireless use.
