Record year for space funding

Space technology investments jumped 29% in 2018, a year that saw more US$75-plus rounds than ever before. With larger funding rounds from a wider variety of ventures pointing to a rapidly evolving market, 2019 looks set to be another record year. Investors pumped US$3.25bn into the sector in 2018, according to newspace investor Seraphim Capital, compared with US$2.52bn the year before. While the launch segment once again fuelled much of the activity at 39% of the total raised, almost all its contribution this time came through growth rounds of series B and later - underlining the industry's maturity.
