Severe storms in the Kerch Strait, which separates Russia from Ukraine, resulted in the loss of five vessel, with 20 mariners still missing as SASI went to press. The storms occurred in mid-November According to Russian Emergency Situations Ministry in Moscow, at least 7,000 tonnes of sulphur and 2,000 tonnes of petroleum products were spilled. The missing mariners are from two of the sunken vessels - 15 from the Georgia-flagged Haj-lzmail and five from the Russia-flagged Nakhichevan.
