February's fire on the the ro-ro ship UND Adriyatic off the Croatian coast showed how vital it is that shore-based firefighters can tackle fires at sea. As we reported in the March issue (pictured below), Croatian firefighters responded with tugs and a water-bombing aircraft as they tackled the blaze. But they and Dutch Salvor Smit could do little more than boundary cooling until the fire eventually burned out.
