Fumes clear from Buffalo

Investigations have found no evidence to support suggestions that bunker fumes had affected crew and shore workers during an incident involving the Maersk Buffalo at Oakland, US, last September (SASI October 2007, p7).rnBoth the UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch - it is a UK-registered ship -and the US Coast Guard were involved in the investigation. Mike Evans, the MAIB's lead inspector for the incident, told SASI last month that a number of people did receive medical checks. After making enquiries, the MAIB decided not to raise the incident to the status of a full investigation and it has now closed the case file. The USCG's file is still open, however, because of shoreside labour-related issues.
