We read your article on immersion suits in the December 2007 issue with interest. However, we would question whether Kari Guddal's father was actually the inventor of the immersion suit. Since very early days the Inuit have used suits called 'spring pelts'.These consisted of seal skins or seal gut stitched together to form a complete waterproof covering (Introduction of the inner immersion coverall for British military aircrew, PWillett, MOD Report, 1988).
