Collision avoidance might appear to be a straightforward case of complying with the regulations (Colregs), but at sea people can make mistakes and errors of judgement. Prompted by concerns about bridge watchkeeping standards, the authors of Managing Collision Avoidance at Sea consulted widely to identify problem areas and assess best practice for dealing with them. Published by the Nautical Institute, this book looks at the subject from an operational point of view to "identify those factors which mariners apply when making seamanlike decisions and to indicate how they can be supported from ashore".
