摘要

While opinions on how to deal withrncrewing crisis are mixed, the shipping industry can probably agree on one thing when it comes to manning issues - it wouldn't do any harm to find out what makes the profession attractive to the young, and how the right people can be encouraged to pursue it.rnA workshop held in London in April by Intertanko and the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) aimed to do just that. Twenty participants from seven countries took part in the three-day Young Seafarers' Focus Group Workshop that, in the words of Intertanko and the ITF, aimed to understand "what drives and motivates the young people, to respond to their concerns and motivations, and to provide an attractive environment for those who have entered, or are about to enter, seafaring as a career".
