What changes for LSAs?

Given that such devices are supposedrnto increase safety, it is ironic that so many seafarers have had cause to worry about lifesaving appliances (LSAs). It has been obvious both from accident reports and vocal industry criticism - about on-load release hooks in particular, but also on maintenance and training issues - that some change to LSA regulation is necessary. For this reason, the outcomes of the 52nd session of the IMO Sub-committee on Ship Design and Equipment (DE 52), which took place at the IMO headquarters on 16-20 March 2009, were particularly noteworthy.
