The problems that owners and skippers face when a ship gets into difficulties in a remote location were highlighted when the chemical tanker Bum Chin was hit by a rogue wave near Adak Island, Alaska.rnThe Hong Kong-flagged vessel was en route from Ulsan, South Korea, to San Francisco and was 130km south of the island when the wave struck.rnThree crewmen were injured in the incident. They were Bum Chin's chief officer, who suffered head injuries, an able seaman, who sustained a head wound and fractured leg, and an engineer, with leg and back injuries.
