Sand carrier capsizes in Huangpu River

A sand carrier sank in the Huangpu River, Shanghai, in February, following a collision with a cargo vessel, but fatalities and pollution were reportedly avoided. On 1 February, the 1,500dwt sand carrier Quan Jiao Huo 0602 was sailing on the Huangpu River carrying 1,000 tonnes of sand, when it was involved in a collision with 6,000dwt cargo ship Wu Xing Zhou 8. The Lanzhou Road maritime department received a collision report at 13:08 saying that the sand carrier was damaged on one side and taking on water.rnIt dispatched two rescue boats to the scene and they arrived within 10 minutes.
