bureau, BEAmer, has called on the IMO to ban crew members from boarding lifeboats during safety drill hoisting and lowering operations. It made the recommendation in its report on the fatal accident that took place on board container ship CMA CGM Christophe Colomb during a lifeboat drill in the port of Yantian, China, on 15 April.An officer and a cadet died and another crew member was seriously injured on the 13,800teu vessel when a lifeboat broke free of its attachments and dropped 24m into the water as it was being hoisted back on to the vessel in the course of a regulation safety drill.
