Model ships to set sail

The UK's Warsash Maritime Academy (WMA) opened its new manned model Ship Handling Centre (SHC) in June. The official opening was performed by Admiral Lord West a few weeks after courses started at Timsbury Lake, near Southampton. Timsbury replaces a similar facility at Marchwood, also in the Southampton area. Lord West, chancellor of Southampton Solent University and former First Sea Lord, said that the new facility, one of only five in the world, would keep WMA at the forefront of international maritime training.
