Grounded vessel leaves slick in sand

The crew of a general cargo ship had to be winched to safety after the vessel grounded during a storm off the coast of southern Brittany, France. Maltese-flagged 6,605dwt TK Bremen sent an alert at 00.40 local time, shortly after leaving the port of Lorient on 15 December. The 19 crew members were rescued in two airlifts that started about 03.00, said the Prefecture Maritime de l'Atlantique (PMA). No crew member was injured.
