Tanker operators have been given a chance to participate in the US Coast Guard's (USCG's) formulation of new rules addressing oil transfers. The agency announced on 23 October that it was considering new measures to reduce the risk of oil spills in transfer operations to or from tank vessels, and sought input from interested parties to inform rulemaking efforts. The USCG intends to focus on "operations that have the highest risk of discharge, including operations at night and in inclement weather", according to a notice in the Federal Register.
