Indonesian attacks accounted for a third of reported piracy events during the first six months of the year. Of the 135 incidents noted by the International Maritime Bureau, 45 (33%) of those occurred around the coastal waters of Indonesia. By contrast, in 2012 it was a quarter of the total. In June alone 11 were reported, which is twice the average rate. The territorial waters of Indonesia's Belawan port recorded eight attacks to the end of June, making it the most dangerous port, ahead of the anchorage at Balikpapan, which saw six attacks.
