Maersk Line embodies strong safety culture

At Maersk Line, safety is of paramount importance. The fact that the world's biggest container ship operator holds a record of zero fatalities for 2013 is remarkable, given the vast scope of operations and huge manpower and man-hours involved. "Any fatality is unacceptable. Our target is to bring the number of fatalities down to zero, and we are working hard to minimise the number of work-related accidents," said Maersk Line CEO Soren Skou. Maersk Line's head of marine standards Aslak Ross told IHS Maritime: "We share safety campaign material with our vessels on an ongoing basis. We have weekly safety training and meetings as well as having trainers onboard every year."
