Indian police have arrested the captain of a cargo ship off Mumbai, India, for alleged illegal bunkering transfer and sales. Shamshul Bakhri, the Indonesian captain of cargo vessel Kresh Jade, was targeted by the police who suspected his involvement in an alleged fuel oil-smuggling racket operating off Mumbai. According to the Yellow Gate police - the Mumbai-based unit covering maritime law enforcement - report, Bakhri is the seventh person to be detained for suspected participation in an illegal fuel oil transfer that occurred on 2 December. Previously, the coastal enforcement agency conducted a raid, based on a tip-off, during which it said it caught six people red-handed illegally transferring 11,000 litres of diesel to a tug. The police believed the transferred oil was to be sold to fishermen at discounted prices.
