▷ A range of requirements proposed by US lawmakers aimed at making cruise lines more accountable for passenger accidents has met sharp opposition from the industry's lobby in Washington, DC. The Cruise Passenger Protection Act (CPPA), introduced in both houses of the US Congress in late April, would build on cruise passenger safety measures contained in the 2010 Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act, according to the bill's sponsors. It would strengthen crime reporting and video surveillance requirements, improve medical standards, and hold cruise lines responsible for deaths at sea.
