Rise in crew kidnap threat in Gulf of Guinea

There is a growing risk of crew being taken hostage on commercial ships operating in West Africa's Gulf of Guinea (GoG) region, according to Dr Dirk Siebels, senior analyst at Risk Intelligence, a security intelligence organisation based in Denmark.Speaking on 1 May 2020, at a maritime security round table hosted online by NATO's Combined and Joint Operations from the Sea Centre of Excellence, Siebels said that current trends of hostages in the GoG should be "an extremely important concern" for merchant ship operators.
