摘要

When measuring the impact of global warming, changes in the pristine, frozen environment of the Arctic are often used as a marker of how severely our actions are affecting our planet. Sea ice is being lost at a rate of more than 10,000 tonnes per second, according to Professor Tore Furevik of the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen. It is expected that there will not be summer ice in the Arctic before 2050, and the loss of that ice serves to speed up the oceans' absorption of the sun's heat and drive further melting and extreme weather globally.
