Let's keep maintenance firmly in the mainstream

Your report in a September issue of the SHPIus e-newsletter about a former soldier who was killed while cleaning the inside of a mixing machine (Director ignored machine-guarding warnings prior to blender fatality) serves to remind directors and managers that they must ensure machinery is safe and that all maintenance work is carried out safely. I have been highlighting the safe maintenance campaign run by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and supported by the HSE, and I have sent out e-mails to employers and managers to raise awareness of the campaign.
