Chartered status and the IPD process

Employers know that when they work with a chartered safety and health practitioner they're dealing with someone who's at the top of their profession. Businesses, employers and recruitment consultants the status as shorthand for 'best in class' and they know they'll get the highest professional standards from a chartered individual. The value of chartered membership is derived largely from the rigorous and objective assessment process used. This process is called Initial Professional Development (IPD) and is available to all graduate members - members who have a degree-level qualification in health and safety. There is no quick way to gain chartered status. Only by working to strict standards at all levels can we hope to maintain the value of IOSH membership for our members and the people who trust them. The elements of IPD a member undertakes depends on through what route they became a graduate member. Members with an accredited-taught qualification have demonstrated their knowledge, and therefore complete a Skills Development Portfolio to prove their ability to apply their knowledge in the workplace.
