I read with interest the two letters by Stuart Cooke and Ryan Donald, respectively, in the July edition of SHP. Intervention in an unsafe situation is often uncomfortable for all parties, but can be worthwhile if applied with a full understanding of the circumstances. Hopefully, Mr Donald's colleague intervened in the live situation they recorded and provided some guidance on safe practices. Working at height is always fraught with risk that can be mitigated against, but sometimes at a cost that the individual may have considered disproportionate to the reward. How do we get the safety message across to individuals who do not necessarily have: the support of, or access to, health and safety practitioners, or relevant experience to look after themselves and others that could be affected by their undertaking?
