摘要

Regarding Derek Swan's article: 'The heat is on' featured in January's issue of SHP. I would argue that from experience, and unlike the author claims, challenges like 'regulatory compliance, workforce shortages, unexpected events and human contributory factors' are not unique to the energy and utilities sector, quite the reverse. The same is true with the comment that safety professionals working in this field need to make sure that appropriate systems, procedures and practices are firmly in place and that the workforce know about them. Is that not part of any safety professional's role? It also seems unfair to say that some of the most dedicated safety professionals work in this sector; achieving results in this profession is not easy, no matter what organisation or industry sector you find yourself in. There are a lot of things I would like to change about 'safety bods' if I could, but the level of dedication is not one of them.
