West Sussex waste management firm South Coast Skips Ltd and its owner have been prosecuted after one worker died and another was left seriously injured when they fell from the bucket of an excavator. Reflecting on the case, an HSE inspector said that no one should ever be lifted in the bucket of an excavator because neither the bucket nor the excavator have the necessary safety devices to prevent a person falling. Chichester Crown Court heard how Lindsay Campbell, a 66-year-old father of ten from Waterlooville in Hampshire, was killed when the bucket of an excavator he was working in tipped causing him to fall nine metres to the ground. Mr Campbell's colleague, who was in the bucket alongside him, also fell and suffered severe leg injuries in the incident on 25 July 2012 at the company's site at the Rudford Industrial estate in Arundel.
