Eighty five decibels and over (daily or weekly average exposure) is the frequency at which hearing damage can occur, so those working in loud factories or with certain tools and machinery need to be protected. Factories and work machinery often produce noise levels up to 120 decibels. Failure to properly protect employees when working in loud environments can lead to temporary or permanent hearing damage. Other problems such as tinnitus, which cause ringing, whistling or buzzing in the ears, can also occur.
