In recent months, a group of experts has been gathering at the RSA for a seminar series entitled 'Science, Engineering & Technology'. The aim of the seminars is to stimulate new thinking in areas of importance to the RSA's programme of work. Distinctions between the disciplines, their relationships to innovation, business and wealth creation, and the role of education and training (in terms of knowledge content and the corresponding skills across Britain) were among the subjects debated at the seminars. The RSA's interest in engineering dates back to its foundation in 1754 when invention, innovation and improvement, which epitomised the Enlightenment, led to local crafts giving way to factories as inventors achieved advances in all branches of production and engineering.
