3-D HIERARCHICAL SUBBAND REPRESENTATIONS: AN APPROACH FOR IMAGE SEQUENCE CODING

A compression algorithm is proposed for the hierarchical subband representations of the image sequences. Using such representations it is possible to obtain a good matching to the spatio-temporal sensitivity of the human visual system, to exploit the temporal correlation and to reduce the contribution of the approximation signal to the total entropy. The compression algorithm is equivalent to an adapted sampling to the motion and spatial detail content.
