Articulated Haulers Are For Contractors

Off-road trucks fall into two categories, rigid frame haulers and articulated haulers. The rigid frame units can be either mechanical or electric drive, both powered by diesel engines. They range in size from around 20-plus-cubic-yard capacity (struck) roughly 29 tons, to a mammoth 228 cubic yards (struck) or 380 tons. Technology and engineering have made these machines easy to operate and very comfortable. The smaller models can and are used in construction; the rigid frame haulers are principally high-volume mining or quarrying vehicles. Other than mass excavation projects or very large earthmoving jobs, rigid frame haulers are not the first choice on a construction site.
