The RHA is supporting proposals by the Northern Ireland Executive to create a Low Emissions Zone framework but is urging that it does not repeat the same mistakes England has made over Clean Air Zone policy. In its response to the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs' consultation on its Clean Air Strategy for Northern Ireland, the RHA strongly supports the need to improve air quality in Northern Ireland and has advocated its solution of continuous investment in vehicle standards to achieve this. Highlighting how good practice already exists through the development of the Euro Ⅵ diesel standard, the Association's response emphasised how a subsequent £1.9bn investment by hauliers in the latest HGVs has led to NOx emissions falling by around 60% since 2013.
